Wedding Cake in the Mountains

A couple of years ago, someone asked me to make their wedding cake for them. Although I'm definitely not a professional, this actually wasn't the first cake I made for a wedding. I made my sister-in-law's wedding cake too (which is another crazy story!).

So, this cake was pretty basic and wasn't too hard to make, but as we started driving up to the wedding site, way up in the mountains, something weird started happening!

The icing was suddenly puffing up from the side of the cake! It was the weirdest thing! (Like, John did you sneak a whoopie cushion into the middle before I iced this thing?? lol.) Really though. It was weird and kind of messing up the icing. 

Luckily, I had some of my cake supplies with me (just in case) and I was able to use a toothpick to release the air and then smooth it back down. Eventually, we made it and the cake was fine. But, just in case you ever bring a cake up to the mountains (because sooo many people do that every day... lol.) bring along a toothpick or sewing pin and hope for the best.
