8 Year Wedding Anniversary 2020

I know it was almost a month late, but John and I were finally able to celebrate our wedding anniversary this week! Like I said before, the original plan was to celebrate it in Disneyland, but since that got cancelled, we ended up staying much closer to home. And even though it was supposed to be more set this time, it was still pretty different from what I had actually planned.

Thankfully, John's parents offered to watch our kids, which was great! We dropped them off Monday afternoon and didn't pick them up until Tuesday at dinner time.

For our free time off, we went to the Anniversary Inn. I've been wanting to stay there for a while after seeing their fun, themed rooms and this year, we finally did! We stayed in the Swiss Family Robinson room which had a cool tree house bed and it's own waterfall!

Trying to stay true to the Swiss Family Robinson adventure theme, we were planning on going to a "U-Pick" farm to pick our own strawberries!... Buuut, it got rained out and then ended up being closed anyway!

So, we thought about indoor rock climbing... Closed.

Even just a plain old golfing range was closed as well.

In the end, we did a random art project we picked up at the store and then did some target practice with a BB Gun my sister's family gave us for Christmas a while back

We were at least sort of able to stay true to the "pick your own" part of it at dinner when we went to MOD Pizza. We got to each choose our own sauce and toppings which was great! Although, to be honest, I missed the different crust options that Pizza Studio has. That one difference is worth driving farther for.

That night, we also did a game John made that was pretty fun! On Sunday night before our mini trip, we filled out a bunch of cards that had questions on them. They were all trivia style where we wrote down one correct answer and three wrong ones and had to guess which one was right. I thought I had it in the bag while we were playing, since I was getting so many of them right, but in the end, John did better than me! Overall, it was a fun game and I'm glad he thought of it!

On Tuesday, we got Thai food at Thai Jasmine (not with the theme but really good!) and then went on a hike to a small man made cave (with the theme).

Once again, the original plan was to go canoeing with sack lunches, but we changed it when we realized it would take a lot of work just for an hour of canoeing. Instead, we're going to go another time when we can stay longer and bring the kids.

During our hike, we ended up taking the wrong trail for a little bit and just trudged up the side of the mountain following creek paths for most of it. Eventually we made it, but couldn't see much in the cave since we only had John's small phone light and I forgot mine in the car... How's that for last minute adventures?! Haha!

On the way back to the car, I picked up a few rocks for the kids and John and I laughed about how it doesn't take long without them before you're thinking about them again.

Even with that, it was still very nice and needed to get a short 24 hour break where I was only responsible for myself for a little while. Sometimes you need that as a mom and as a couple!

Although it was great, I'm glad to be home again with my fun kids. Brooke was being pretty quiet today and I found her putting on makeup in my room. Sometimes, she does her lipstick better than I do! Lol. Aaron is still a cute little boy that loves giving hugs and slobbery kisses and David has discovered teasing this month... We'll see how long that lasts. If it's anything like my brother was growing up, I'm thinking it's not "just a phase"... Thankfully, he's usually sweet enough to make up for it with how helpful and willing to share he is with his siblings.

Let's see what the rest of the summer brings. Hopefully, all good stuff!
