Well, we didn't make it to a pumpkin patch this year. But the kids did clean up with how much candy they got!
As usual, we had a family Halloween party at John's parents' house two Saturdays before. We used that time to share our news that we're expecting our 5th child!
Some people caught on to my costume a little quicker than others, but either way, now everyone knows our fun news!
Other than the family party, we had a Trunk-or-Treat with our church. This year, we decorated our trunk super easily with some Halloween jokes tapes up on large paper around the trunk and then hung up some light up balloons. Super simple. John and I didn't actually stay for the whole thing because his sister Lindsay was going to our church's temple for the first time that night! Luckily, my sister Julia was able to come and watch the kids for us so they didn't miss out on any of the fun with their friends!
Later that week, we carved pumpkins with John's dad and sister, and two of our kids' cousins, which was pretty fun. Aaron insisted that he wanted his to be a "happy pumpkin" and helped draw out the smile before I carved it for him. He also didn't want to help scoop out the slimy stuff inside... I'm pretty sure David was the only kid that helped out a little with that part. Brooke's design was a butterfly inside of a heart and I have to say that Jenny did an expert job carving that thing out!
On Monday, our kids started with the tradition of trick or treating at the town square. It's super nice of the businesses to hand out candy and our kids love starting off the night with that! After our dinner of monster face pizzas, the kids headed around the neighborhood with John while I stayed home to answer the door for all of the little ghosts and goblins coming around. Or I should say, Pokémon and Disney princesses. Costumes are a little different than they used to be. Haha!
After about an hour, Aaron came home half crying because he was cold. And a Mario with a coat is NOT a Mario apparently, so he was content with the candy he already got. Zack, our one year old, however, went for the entire time with the older kids. John kept trying to ask him if he was cold or tires, but he would say a firm "Uh-uh!!!" and march up to the next door with David and Brooke. Not only that, but he made sure to take two candies every time - one for each hand! That definitely made up for Aaron's bag since we ended up combining theirs.
Once all the trick or treating was done, everyone watched Harry Potter and we put the candy away until the next day. Brooke ended up with a gallon sized zip lock bag full!
Now that it's a week past, David has almost eaten all of his candy, Aaron and Zack have eaten half of theirs, and Brooke has barely scraped the surface despite her steady few pieces a day. Let's just hope she can get through it all before we get bombarded with sweets again at Christmas!
