Puzzle Race Date Night

For date night recently, John thought it would be fun to have a puzzle night.

And to make things more fun, we decided to turn it into a puzzle race!

First, we headed to the dollar store to pick out puzzles for each other. We each ended up with a 24 piece, 48 piece, and 100 piece for the other person to do and then we picked out just one 500 piece to do together. In total, that meant our date night was under $10 this week! And since we did the puzzles together at home after the kids were asleep, we didn't even have to pay a babysitter. Bonus!

Once the kids were in bed, the competition began.

We found out pretty quickly that not all dollar store puzzles are created the same. John just happened to get cheaply made ones every time where the pieces wouldn't stay together well or lay flat on the table! That was an unfair advantage for me whose puzzle pieces were all thicker than his and were more like a real puzzle. We compared brands after and found that all of the puzzles that were "Spin Master Puzzles" brand were much better while "Crazy Art" and "Perfect Fit Puzzles" weren't as easy to work with. And I happened to have all of the Spin Master Puzzles. Oops!

In the end, here's about how long the puzzles took:

24 piece - 2 minutes

48 piece - 7 minutes

100 piece - 26 minutes

Which means that this date night activity can also be done in under an hour if needed.

We did end up pulling out the 500 piece puzzle but only got the border and a small amount of the middle done before we decided to cover it up for later and call it a night. Zack has been waking up a lot at night lately, so we were both needing to get to bed sooner.

In the end, this made for the perfect date night this week after the busy holidays and school staring again. Plus, our kids will get to use the puzzles now too which David is excited about. We'll see how long they last before we loose a piece! Haha!
