That, and the fact that all the coats I had in California, were pretty thin. I actually didn't even realize this until my sister Jenny gave me a coat she was getting rid of and I realized that it was as warm as wearing two of mine! I guess they don't make warm coats in California. Maybe that's why we were wimps... because our coats were so thin.
Seriously though, this coat is still one of the warmest I own! Because of that, I wear it a lot... and because of that, it had gotten pretty dirty by now. No matter how many times I washed it in the washing machine, or scrubbed it in the sink, it still looked the same.
After getting to the point where it was actually embarrassing for me to wear it, I decided to try and wash it using a technique I read about online. It was pretty easy, and it worked great!
All I had to do was combine 1 part blue dawn dish soap, 2 parts baking soda, and 2 parts hydrogen peroxide and scrub it into all the dirty parts of my coat. I let it sit for an hour and then ran it through the washing machine with no soap followed by a regular wash with laundry soap.

I am so glad I tried this! And even more glad that it worked! I was actually nervous that something would go terribly wrong and completely ruin my coat, but I realized that not wearing it is the same as not even having it so what did I have to lose!?
Either way, it worked and it's like this coat is almost new again!
