Lace Bow

When Amanda and Tanner were married, they asked me to help make their wedding cake and cupcakes! After I was completely finished, I still had a small piece of lace left from their wedding cake. I had the idea that it would look really cute as a hair bow for a baby girl, so I kept it to use for whenever they had their first little one! With that in mind, I put the lace in a drawer somewhere and forgot about it... that is, until Amanda and Tanner announced that they were having a baby in March! And also, after I started cleaning out some of my craft stuff and found the lace scrap again... haha!

My fingers were crossed that they were having a little girl so I could turn the lace into a cute hair bow of some sort, but as it turns out, they are having a boy! I was still determined to make it work though so I changed my idea a little to make them a bow tie instead! Also, they should still be able to use the bow tie as a bow in their girls' hair if they end up having a girl as well later on. We'll see what happens...

So, to make this bow tie/hair bow, I first measured and cut the ribbon. I chose a deep blue so it would work for a girl or a boy (in my opinion...). After folding the ribbon into a bow, I wrapped the lace around it and secured it to the front and the back of the ribbon using hot glue. I then sewed down the middle of the bow to gather it a little.

After measuring the elastic to be just over 12 inches long, I sewed the ends together.

Next, I hot glued the back of the bow to the elastic and glued a folded piece of ribbon over the center of the bow, securing it on the back of the bow.

That was it! It was pretty easy and a fun way to use the leftover ribbon from their wedding! The only bummer thing is that I didn't have enough ribbon to make more than one bow, since it turned out so cute!
