The end of John's 1st semester was a few weeks ago which meant... finals. And for me, that meant helping John study for his final. By the end of the week we were exhausted and so ready for a break! Thankfully, we were able to go to California for the week to visit family and spend time in South Lake Tahoe for a few days while my parents watched our kids for us.
Although it was a long drive, it was completely worth it. We drove up Friday night and after getting to spend some time with my family Saturday and part of Sunday, we drove up to South Lake Tahoe.
On Monday, we had to meet for a vacation company sales presentation (the whole reason we could afford to go on this vacation right now...) that wasn't as bad as we expected to be honest. They could kind of tell right away that we weren't interested in spending more money and didn't pressure us too much.
After that, we went to the Logan Shoals Vista Point. We walked down a path and climbed down some large boulders so we could sit closer to the water while we ate lunch. Once we were done, we hiked back up the hill and water color painted the lake, This was John's idea (since he knows how much I love art projects, haha) and it was super fun!
Later that evening, we walked pretty far (since I didn't want to bike) just to get to a restaurant that ended up being closed for the month during the city's slow season... It all worked out though and we ate at a place called Azul which was pretty good. It seemed a little expensive, but we knew everywhere we ate probably would be. One thing I liked though was that the portion size was perfect. We ate just enough to be done, but they didn't fill the plate up so much the you feel like you have to eat more and end up feeling sick after dinner.
On Tuesday, we parked at Regan beach (since they have free parking) and planned to kayak to Fannette Island. After quite a while, we realized that it was a lot farther than we thought it would be. So, we kayaked to the shore (the edge of Pope beach I'm pretty sure) and ate lunch there instead.
After we were done kayaking, we went to Bijou Park to play Frisbee Golf (although we never did find the starting point for the first hole. Haha!). And then later had pizza for dinner.
Wednesday started off with a bike ride from our hotel to Tallac Historic Site. It ended up being about an 18 mile bike ride round trip which was fine, but since I'm not much of a biker, I was pretty sure I'd be sore every time I sat down for the next week. Luckily, since the road was mostly paved where we did our bike ride (yes, I'm a wimp. Haha!), I was actually back to normal much sooner than I thought I'd be!
To finish the night off, we actually just ate our leftover pizza from the day before and played a board game.
After checkout on Thursday, we went to the Sacramento LDS Temple (where we were married 6 years ago!) and then went back to my parent's house.
The rest of the week consisted of the boys going on a Father, Sons Campout (where David caught a fish!) while the girls had a Girls night and made chocolates at home while watching "The Greatest Showman".
Another fun thing was the Mother's day Salmon dinner Saturday night along with the strawberries and whipped cream french toast on Sunday morning (Thanks Dad!). Growing up, we always ate breakfast together on Mother's Day because my mom doesn't like breakfast in bed. Now that I'm a mom and have had breakfast in bed, I completely agree with her. Sure, it may sound relaxing, but having breakfast alone with no one around to enjoy it with is not actually fun or very enjoyable in my opinion...
With our one break over, we're back home and waiting for the next one. Fingers crossed this next semester won't be as exhausting... Although I'm pretty sure it will be... But, a girl can hope!
