Halloween is done! It was fun and the kids got way more candy this year than any of the past years, but I'm excited to start looking forward to Thanksgiving and Christmas! But first a look back at our celebrations this past week...
So, first the costumes. For some reason it seemed like quite a few of my friends went with a Peter Pan theme this year. There must've been something in the air because we did too. Brooke had gotten a Tinkerbell costume in September from one of our neighbors whose daughters had grown out of it, and David decided to be Peter Pan to match (after a wonderful suggestion from his mom... lol.) Since I'm almost 7 months pregnant and already had the shirt, I decided to be a low key Smee. Unfortunately, John didn't have a costume this year, although he was going to be Captain Hook. Since he had class and couldn't go to our church's chili cook off (which is really the only time he and I wear costumes), we just didn't bother to make him one.
As I mentioned in my Halloween Monster Pizza post, we carved pumpkins on Sunday and made monster pizzas for dinner with John's parents and sister, Lindsay. David and Brooke were so excited and were up early Monday morning asking if they could go look at their pumpkins outside again.
On Wednesday, Brooke and I went to David's school to watch the Halloween parade all the kids do around the gym. It was cute to see all the costumes, but there were about ten people in one of those blow up dinosaur costumes which kind of confused and freaked Brooke out a little...
After lunch, the kids got back in their costumes so we could trick or treat at John's work. He told me it was just his boss handing out a candy so I didn't pack their trick or treat bags (a.k.a. pillow cases. lol.). Once we got there, I found out that his boss had bought a ton of candy so everyone could pass out candy! Well, everyone except the new guy that accidentally thought the kids were passing out candy and took one... Haha! He realized what was going on a bit later and gave them back, so it's all good. And in the end, it wouldn't have mattered. They both got so much candy it felt like we were done before we even started.
Once John got home from work, we took our kids around the small shopping center by our house where they do trick or treating every year. And honestly, this was the best year yet. One store handed out fidget spinners, one gave out giant pixie sticks, and the pizza place handed out little gummy pizzas (which was a super cute idea by the way)! The bakery even gave out donuts which was genius because it was sort of free advertising with samples. I had never been to this bakery, but after trying one of their donuts (which tasted just like Krispie Kreme's) I will definitely go straight to them the next time we need donuts for something. Which mostly just means when my family comes up, because that's really the only time we buy donuts. Haha!
Later that night, the kids trick or treated around the neighborhood and then we watched the Disney version of The Legend of Sleepy Hallow that night before they went to bed.
In the morning, I got up to find David and Brooke sitting on the stairs eating yogurts and being very disappointed that they "searched the whole house and couldn't find a single piece of candy!" Hopefully, they don't find our hiding spot while we continue to ration it out. They seriously ended up with so much it might even take until next Halloween before it's gone! Or hopefully until Christmas. If it doesn't at least last that long, then we have a problem... Haha!
