Halloween Monster Pizzas

When it comes to Halloween traditions, it doesn't seem like we have many other than the typical "carve a pumpkin", "go trick-or-treating", "egg someone's house"... (Just kidding about that last one! Lol.) And of course, visiting a pumpkin patch may become a new tradition after this year!

But one family tradition we do have is to make monster pizzas for dinner on Halloween night. It started the year after David was born. We decided to make pizza for dinner and since it was Halloween, why not make it look like it had a monster face??

They turned out so fun, that we decided to keep doing that each year. Now that David is a little older and Brooke is kind of at the age where she gets it, it's even more fun! And to make it even better, John's mom, dad, and sister Lindsay were able to come up and make them with us a few days before Halloween this year while we carved pumpkins!

Not only do we each make our own individual monster pizzas, but the best part is the oreo mummy pizza for dessert. (If anyone has ever been to Pizza Pie Cafe, they know the magic that is the oreo dessert pizza! And how easy it is to eat multiple slices since it's just "pizza". Lol.)

The only bummer part this year was that I was late getting dinner on and everyone just made regular pizzas before I realized they were made... They were pretty hungry. Haha! So, no actual monster pizzas this year except for the oreo ones below. Luckily, I took a few pictures of last years pizzas, so enjoy those...

(Also as a tip, if you want to make a fun monster face on your pizza, but you also want more evenly spaced toppings, add the toppings before spreading the cheese on so the cheese can hide it and give you a blank canvas to build your monster face on!)

For the oreo pizza, you can use the same pizza dough as you use for the monster pizzas (we just use whole wheat flour for the regular pizzas and all purpose flour for the dessert pizza). Roll it out to fit your pan (it was a little thick this year...). Next, you spread cream cheese frosting over the dough and top it with crushed oreos. Bake it just like the normal pizzas and let it cool slightly. When it is cooled, you can use a piping bag with a flat tip (like the Wilton tip 789 to make it look more like mummy bandages) to pipe a cream cheese glaze (or the leftover cream cheese frosting after melting it in the microwave) on top, or you can just use a spoon to drizzle it over the top. Make sure to leave a gap near the top so you can give your mummy eyes!

This has been such a fun tradition to have with our kiddos. It makes Halloween fun without it having to be gross or creepy. Plus, it's a great excuse to make oreo dessert pizza every year! Yum!
