That Friday, I had a doctor's appointment and even though I had wanted to wait for spontaneous labor, I was a day away from my due date of January 5th so I had to schedule a day to be induced just in case. I scheduled for next week but my doctor said that if I wanted to, I could be induced that day! The more I thought about it, being induced that day made so much sense. My mom would get to be here for it, it would guarantee that the baby wouldn't surprise us and come while John was in class, and I wouldn't have to be pregnant for (potentially) another full week (which would be great, of course. Haha!)
After talking it over with John, we decided to go ahead and move forward with it. I scheduled it for 4 pm (so glad John talked me out of 7 pm!) and made sure we had absolutely everything packed in our hospital bag which had been packed for a month at this point... After that was done, I just waited around with my mom and David and Brooke until John got home from work. It was kind of weird to think that I was for sure going into labor that day since this was the first time I was being induced, but for my mom, it was normal. She had to have all C-sections so all of her deliveries were scheduled!
Once we got to the hospital, it was routine stuff. Got an IV, started on antibiotics, was given pitocin. Once my contractions were regular and about 5 minutes apart, they called the anesthesiologist so I could get an epidural. By the time I had the epidural, my contractions were 3 minutes apart but I could no longer feel them. Epidurals are the best!!! Also, as a random side note, the guy that gave me my epidural knows John's parents and younger siblings since he used to live in their neighborhood... small world!
After having them break my water, waiting to get to a certain point, and then pushing, our little boy was born! I tried not to tear this time, but had a moderate tear yet again. The doctor said it wasn't as bad as the last 2 times though. And with how my recovery has been compared to the last two, I can totally tell!
A few other things about this time around... They let me have smoothies! Since I went in before dinner, I knew I'd probably get hungry going through it all on nothing but ice chips... But luckily, smoothies are technically a liquid and they had them in the hospital for me, which was awesome!
Seriously, I am still so happy about the smoothie that I couldn't remember what else I was going to write for a minute... Lol.
Another thing that was different was that they count your days by how many midnights you've been in the hospital. And since Aaron was born at 11:37 at night, my first day technically ended shortly afterwards. Seriously, another 23 minutes and I would've been allowed to stay for another full day. This was not the best news to me (as my last post on the 5 best and worst parts of pregnancy will explain).
One other thing I noticed was that my contractions felt the same as they did with my last two labors. I had heard from different people that pitocin can make your contractions stronger and more painful than they are in natural labor. For me however, the only difference was that the medicine made them start and get regular instead of my body doing it on its own which didn't change the pain for me at all.
Now, that Aaron is here, it's a lot of diaper changes, feeding, medicine tracking and not much sleep. And also lots of cuddles and random baby half smiles. Hopefully soon, we'll be able to get him on some sort of eating and sleeping schedule so we can focus on the cute, fun parts!
Thankfully, David and Brooke absolutely love him! They want to see him, hug him, and rub his tiny baby head any chance they get. They are so sweet and helpful when it comes to the baby. At the same time though, Brooke is currently going through her two's where she is a little more defiant and testing things out... and she is also potty training (thanks John for heading that up right now!). So, all things considered, we're ecstatic to have our cute little one with us, but it is definitely not easy. Hopefully, I'll be able to get to some sort of normal/not normal routine and get adjusted to a small amount of sleep again. So, if you happen to see me during this in between time, just smile, don't mention how tired I look, and give me food. Preferable something with lots of sugar in it. Lol.
