During this past October, the church I am a member of (The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints) had it's semi-annual general conference. One special thing that happened during this conference was that the prophet, President Nelson, challenged us to read the Book of Mormon again by the end of 2018. After doing a little math, I counted it up and it meant it would be an 80 day challenge. I've done an 80 day challenge for reading the entire book before so I knew it wouldn't be too difficult to do.
Although I've read the Book of Mormon all the way through multiple times, every time I read it something different always stands out to me. It's the same as when I read the Bible. I think that the stage of life I am in and the different experiences I have each year change how I think about the chapters I read. Certain verses will have a different meaning to me or will stand out more than in previous years.
This year, one thing that has definitely stood out to me is how often the prophets have told us to be thankful to God in everything. That, and how much God loves each of His children and knows them individually and personally!
With so much going on right now, it really is a great thing to know that Heavenly Father cares about me personally. I am grateful for the knowledge I have of His plan and the part that I play in it. I'm also grateful for the Book of Mormon and all that I have learned and gained from it. It has been a wonderful resource to turn to and it strengthens my testimony of Jesus Christ each time I read it.
If anyone wants to read this wonderful book for themselves, they can get a free copy by going to Mormon.org or by asking a church missionary for a copy.
Here's a small section found near the end of the book:
Moroni 10:3-5
3 Behold, I would exhort you that when ye shall read these things, if it be wisdom in God that ye should read them, that ye would remember how merciful the Lord hath been unto the children of men, from the creation of Adam even down until the time that ye shall receive these things, and ponder it in your hearts.
4 And when ye shall receive these things, I would exhort you that ye would ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ, if these things are not true; and if ye shall ask with a sincere heart, with real intent, having faith in Christ, he will manifest the truth of it unto you, by the power of the Holy Ghost.
5 And by the power of the Holy Ghost ye may know the truth of all things.
