David is 6!

This week David turned 6! Also this past week... David ended up in the hospital.

Although it sounds crazier and worse than it has been, David fell out of a shopping cart, hitting his head on the ground (something the doctors and nurses have told us is pretty common) and ended up needing a small surgery. Thankfully, it was a pretty routine, low risk surgery for the surgeon and everything went well. David had his surgery Thursday afternoon and was out of the hospital by Sunday evening. We're so glad to have him back home and especially glad that he didn't have to spend his birthday in the hospital this year. Not only that, but he recovered quickly enough that he was able to still have his birthday party this weekend! Bonus!

So, after all the craziness of his surgery, David was able to have a great birthday! My dad came up to help us out after we got home from the hospital so David got an extra special birthday this year by having extra Grandpa time!

On his actual birthday, we had cake (funfetti with cheesecake mousse filling, his choice) and macaroni and cheese with fruit and fruit dip for dinner (also his choice). One tradition we have is to let our kids pick what we have for dinner on their birthday. Although I don't like mac and cheese, it sure beats the year 2 year old David insisted he wanted nothing but toast for dinner... Haha!

After cake, David got to open his presents which were, of course, Legos.

He helped put together the star wars ship for about 10 minutes and then asked my dad to put the rest of it together for him. And even though my dad insists that he actually doesn't like legos, he probably spent an hour putting that thing together trying to find all the small parts for it! He's either fibbing about not liking legos, or he's the world's best grandpa! Lol.

For his birthday party this year, David wanted to have a Lego themed party!

He helped make and deliver all of his invitations and was excited to help set up for the party as well!

Once all his friends arrived, they made their own lego person, played a game where they had to break a lego guy out of an ice cube and played lego bingo (which I got here). Then, they played a lego toss game where they had to try to throw legos into the bowls on the ground. The one rule was that they had to keep their feet on the ground by the chair behind them. One smart boy (in the picture below) discovered a way to "bend the rules" as he said and won the first round. The second time we played it the rules had to be changed to give everyone a fair chance. Lol.

Then after cupcakes and presents, David's party was done! He had so much fun! And it also helped that John's mom and sister, Lindsay, came up to help watch Brooke and Aaron so I could just focus on wrangling the 10 4-7 year old boys at our house! Thankfully, with enough games and activities planned, it wasn't nearly as crazy as I thought it would be!

Here's one last "Happy Birthday" to this smart, thoughtful 6 year old! We are so proud of the caring brother, son, and friend that he is and are excited to see him continue to learn and grow!
