Cute Box Upcycle

While walking past the mountain of donation items growing in our garage (is that just us or do most people have that with most of the thrift stores temporarily closed?...) I noticed potential in an old box I had decided to get rid of.

With our new bookshelf almost done, I knew I needed one more thing to add to the shelves. And this Christmas box was perfect! With a few changes of course... Lol.

After going through the few pieces of scrapbook paper I actually own, I found one with a color and pattern that would go well with the rest of the things in the bookshelf.

First, I set the box on its side to measure, mark, and cut the scrapbook paper to fit the side. Once I had enough to go around the sides of the box, I used regular stick glue to glue the paper down.

I did the same thing with the lid, but cut the paper out with enough on the edges to go over the entire lid. I clipped the sides of the lid to hold the paper down while the glue dried.

This project was so quick to finish and could easily have been done with things from the dollar store! I went with a glue stick instead of mod podge because I wanted a completely matte look, but mod podge would probably be more permanent if you don't mind the slight shine.

I'm so glad that spark of inspiration hit me in the garage at that random time! It made me take a second look at the rest of the things in the pile too.

In the end, the box was the only thing getting rescued this week. Maybe next time, old lamp fixture. Haha!
