This past weekend David had Thursday and Friday off of school. Buuut, since we were already planning on going camping with John's family next weekend, John didn't take any days off work. Instead, my sister Julia came up and we had a "staycation" at home!
I didn't want David's few days off to be lame, so we had a few fun things planned.
On Thursday, my sister came and we went to the Clark Planetarium. The kids loved seeing the giant marble track and the space games on the second floor!
We also went to the Dome Theater to watch a kid's space show and watch them project the night sky across the ceiling. The kids loved it and Brooke thought we really went to space...
After the Planetarium, we got lunch at the City Creek Center's food court and headed home.
That night, we watched Hotel Transylvania and had popcorn. It was a great first day!
On Friday, we ran some quick errands which included getting Lunchables for lunch thanks to Julia. We don't usually get those, but when you see that they brought back the deep dish pizza kind, you gotta get it at least once! Lol. The only bummer part is that now, they only give you one. Honestly, that might be enough for a kid, but not totally for a mom. At least, not enough to fully satisfy the nostalgia... But, hey. They probably don't count on mom's buying them for themselves anyway, so it's fine. Haha!
After lunch, we headed to Scales and Tails Utah. It was super cool to see all of the reptiles and animals they had. They let everyone touch and sometimes hold the animals too, but my kiddos were a little timid about it. Aaron's favorite part was watching the large crocodile that was staring at us the entire time from behind the glass we were sitting by.
Afterwards, we went back home and Julia offered to watch the kids while John and I had date night. That was super nice of her since we hardly ever get a date night to ourselves right now.
And true to some parents, for this coveted date night we went to Home Depot to look at cabinets for the kitchen... without the stress of our kids running wild around the store. Afterwards, we got Costa Vida (Definitely a favorite in our house).
While we were gone, the kids watched Hotel Transylvania 2 and had pizza.
Saturday, we brought lunch to the Cross E Ranch. Grandma and Grandpa Le Starge came too and it was great! We watched pig races, went on a hayride, went down giant slides, participated in rubber duck races, David did a small zip line, went through a hay maze and climbed a hay pyramid, did a medium sized corn maze and walked out into the field to pick pumpkins. At the end, Julia bought apple cider donuts for us all (sounds so good right now!) and the kids went on a mini tractor ride before we headed back to our house. That day was warm and sunny and that night I realized that I got a mask sunburn. Haha! Thankfully it was a light enough burn that it had faded by Monday.
Overall, this was a pretty fun staycation. I'm glad we live in a place that's not too far from fun activities. Being creative and making our own fun is always an option, but sometimes it feels a little more special to the kids to go somewhere new and exciting!
