Moab Trip 2020

As I mentioned in our Staycation post, we had planned on going camping in Moab with John's parents a few weeks ago. And then, surprise! John's sister had her baby, so Mom stayed home, but Dad still came which was fun!

We drove down Thursday night and had just enough time to set up our tents and visit with Dad a little before going to bed.

On Friday, the kids had fun playing around the campsite before we went on a hike to Corona Arch (perfect for these coronavirus times. Haha!). By the end, Aaron wanted to run the whole way back himself and David was pretty grumpy.

We ate lunch and then John's dad took the kids to a giant sand hill while John and I did a small bike ride together. I was expecting it to be me trying to not go too fast or too slow while staring at John's back the whole time. Instead, the trail was paved and wide enough for us to ride next to each other and talk. It was a perfect combination of activity for John and talking for me. The only downside was the bruising from the bike seat. Those things are as hard as rocks!

(Also, here's a funny sign that we saw at the start of our bike ride. I'm tempted to put it up in our neighborhood. Haha!)

For dinner, we used a restaurant.com gift certificate to eat at Moab Diner and for dessert, Dad bought super yummy ice cream for everyone afterwards. And then for second dessert (why not, it's vacation... Lol.) we had smores and marshmallows at the campsite. It was a great first day!

Saturday, we spent the morning hiking a random mountain and then going to Dead Horse Point State Park. The view at the park was pretty spectacular! I was a little nervous about Aaron at first because he wanted to run everywhere, but the walls they built were high enough that I wasn't as nervous as when we were on the mountain.

After that, John and his dad did Arthur's bike trail. I had to drive with the kids to pick them up afterwards at the bottom of the mountain. When Dad was describing the road I'd have to drive down, I thought it sounded pretty bad. I was picturing  driving on the edge of a cliff with lots of steep parts and boulders I'd have to maneuver the car around. After going down it the first time, I saw that it was not as bad as I thought it would be which was good! It was pretty bumpy though, and David was saying he was "done with this" half way through. He cheered up when he got some snacks and got to help me look for the best way to head down the mountain. And the guys had a ton of fun on their ride. So it was worth it.

That night, we drove home and got Subway and "Old McDonald's" on the way back for dinner. Even though it was a short trip, it ended up being perfect for us. We did all the things we definitely wanted to do, without doing too much tiring stuff for the kids.

It was even pretty warm (although a little cold during the nights) and the Bureau of Land Management added a bathroom by the camping spots! With me currently at 4 1/2 months pregnant, that might be one of the highlights of the trip. haha!

And now that we're home, the kids are eating breakfast while watching it snow outside... We'll see what this next week brings with Halloween. Hopefully, the snow goes away again long enough to celebrate!
