Halloween 2021

After a few years ago, I wasn't expecting to be able to do a family themed costume for Halloween pretty much ever again. Our two oldest kids are definitely in the ages where they want to pick their own costumes and as their mom, I'm not going to force them to dress up as something just so they will fit into the family theme for that year.

That being said, once David suggested that we all do a Mario theme, it actually worked out perfectly! David actually wanted to be Luigi and have Aaron be Mario, and with Princess Peach wearing a pink dress, Brooke was definitely on board.

I ended up making a star costume for Zack and "Player 1" and "Player 2" shirts for John and I. I also made David's overalls and Brooke's dress. Usually I can get lucky and find something to make work at the store, but this time I had to make her whole dress from scratch! It turned out pretty good in the end!

Along with making all of the costumes, the actual week of Halloween was pretty busy!

The Saturday the week before, we went to Spooktacular at a rec center near us which was fun. The kids got to play games and win candy. Also, none of the costumes were ready except for Aaron's so everyone was in something random.

Monday was Family Home Evening. We invited John's parents over for dinner and carved pumpkins with them. Afterwards, Brooke had fun dancing with grandpa through our galley kitchen before they had to head home.

On Tuesday, Julia came up to watch Carly Lloyd's last soccer game with us! I ended up working on Brooke's dress most of the night and didn't actually see most of the game, but I do know that they won! And bonus, I finished her dress in time for the next day!

Wednesday was the ward Trunk-or-Treat! We decorated our trunk to go with the Mario theme and handed out chocolate gold coins, Mario mustache whistles, and airheads.

On Thursday, I went to a relief society activity for church. It seemed weird to have two church activities back to back like that, but when I got home that night I felt so good! I didn't realize I needed a break so much!

Once Friday rolled around, we were ready for John' family's Halloween Party. We had soup and sliders, and played some fun Halloween games. Also, I did a donut on a string competition for the first time and it was just as unappealing as I have always thought it looks. The first bite I took was so tiny, I knew I would lose within the first ten seconds. When David did the donut challenge in the round with kids, he bit it with his teeth and ripped the whole thing off the string so he could eat it with his hands like a normal person. He's definitely my son. Haha!

Saturday morning, we went to a pumpkin patch in Orem with Julia and John's sister Amanda and her two kids. It had a bunch of kid sized fair rides and was super fun!

As a side note... no one actually got hurt or pushed even though it looks like it in those pictures. Haha!

The official trick or treating night here in Utah was Saturday, so that's when John took the kids around. We had more trick or treaters than last year (about 25) so that was great! Once the kiddos were home, John watched The Legend of Sleepy Hollow with them before they went to bed.

Sunday was actually Halloween and I turned on our porch light just in case, but no one came by.

Now that Halloween's done it's time to countdown to Thanksgiving so we can countdown to Christmas so we can countdown to New Years! And that's about how the rest of the year always goes. Haha!
