With how freezing it has been lately, I knew I needed a new pregnancy coat.
My old one was pretty thin and my normal coats can barely button or zip at this point.
And if anyone knows me, they know that my favorite store is D.I. So, that's where my search began!
And if anyone knows D.I., they know how hard it can be to find pregnancy clothes there.
So I didn't look for them.
Instead (going along with the theme of my last few clothing alterations posts) I found a great coat I could change to make fit!
The coat I ended up going with was a fun pink color! It actually had no buttons when I bought it but that was fine. I had a specific type of button in mind for this and I would have had to remove the old ones anyway, so it actually saved me some work.
To make this coat fit, I first put it on and marked with a pencil where the first button would need to be sewn on. This top one went in the normal place.
Then, with the next two buttons, I held my coat out a little to mark where they would need to go. Instead of being in a straight line, I sewed them on at an angle to give my pregnant tummy the room it needed.
And that was it! A new pregnancy coat in no time at all! And it's actually warmer than any of my other coats too which is great!
In the end, my coat was $10 and the buttons were about $5 or less since I didn't have to use the entire pack. At the most, my coat was $15! Score!
Not only was it affordable, but after I'm done having kids, all I need to do is sew the buttons back on in a straight line and I can keep wearing it!
I'm so glad I had this idea and even happier with how my coat turned out! Now I'll have a way to stay warm before the internal "pregnant body" heater kicks in. Haha!
