Multi-Stake Conference 2018

This past weekend our church (The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints) had a multi-stake conference with Elder Cook and Elder Gong from the Quorum of the 12 Apostles. It was a wonderful experience to be able to hear inspired messages from these two men and their wives as well as other church leaders. Along with the many great inspirational talks, there were also quite a few jokes and funny stories that were told. One story I wanted to share from the conference was told by Sister Cook.

Years ago when Elder and Sister Cook were raising their children, Sister Cook got the wonderful idea to have the family act out a scripture story for Family Home Evening. She decided to do the story of Moses and the Israelites leaving Egypt. She wrote out a simple script that she would help her six year old read while her three year old was Moses and Elder Cook was Pharaoh.

Things started off well with everyone dressed for the part with towels over their heads to look more like Egyptians. Part of the way through, little "Moses" had to say to Pharaoh, "Let my people go." To this, Pharaoh would reply, "No." As they came up to the fourth time in a row of repeating these lines, Moses hit Pharaoh on the nose! That was definitely unplanned for!

Sister Cook finished her story by saying that although each family home evening may not go as planned, it's important to keep trying.

I loved this story because as funny as it was, it was also very relatable to probably everyone in the room! I know we have definitely had family gatherings and scripture studies that have not quite gone to plan. Kids are high energy and it is sometimes hard to keep their attention long enough to get the lesson across. At the same time, a few different speakers mentioned in part of their talk how important it is to be a good example to our children. Not only are they learning when we specifically sit them down to teach them, but they are learning every day by watching what we say and how we act!

I am so grateful that we have such wise leaders at the head of our church. They have had so many experiences in this life that can help teach and bless the lives of others. I'm grateful that we have a living prophet today that leads and guides this church.

No matter what happens in this life, if we turn to Christ and keep trying as Sister Cook said, I know that we can accomplish anything that is righteous and needful.
