Love Letter Date Night

Last week, John was in charge of planning date night and he had a list of fun and random ideas! The one we ended up going with was trying our hand at Calligraphy!

I happened to have a small calligraphy set my parents gave me for Christmas years ago. It got put in a box and I honestly forgot I had it until John mentioned this idea. We pulled it out and luckily, it worked fine! No dry ink at all.

Once our kids were in bed, we pulled out the pen and some paper and used a simple alphabet font from Google to see some basic calligraphy writing.

One thing I thought we could do was to write each other notes using our new skill. To make it a little more fun, we each wrote 5 random words or phrases on pieces of paper and put them all in a jar. We then picked out three of the words each and had to incorporate those words in our notes. They ended up being more random and funny instead of romantic, but that's ok.

When we were done writing our notes, we played the game "Love Letter". It's a pretty quick and easy game we picked up a while ago. John won by a landslide. (Also, yes, I did draw on the cards... Lol.)

Once we finished our game and the notes were dry (which didn't actually take long), we hid them for each other to find throughout the week. I hid one in John's wallet (super easy) and I'm not going to say where the other two were... Let's just say, he's going to have to do a lot of laundry before he finds the next one! Haha!

This was such a cool skill to learn together. John commented that it was a lot harder than it seems like it should be. And I have a lot more respect and empathy for people in charge of keeping records hundreds of years ago... Hand cramping must have been a daily occurrence for them. Lol.

This week it's my turn to plan again and it's going to be another easy, free, stay home one. Which also means the budget can go towards food! Now, if only I could decide where I want to eat for once... Decisions, decisions...
