Brooke's Red Dress

A while back I shared a sewing project I did where I turned a bigger skirt into a smaller skirt... Yeah, not too hard to do.

This time I did something similar by making a toddler dress out of a teen's shirt! What can I say, it's a lot easier than starting from scratch sometimes. Haha!

To make this dress, I used a seam ripper to take out the pockets and scissors to get rid of the hood and sleeves. Then, I folded over the fabric in the back for around the neck and sewed a smaller, toddler sized hole than the shirt originally had.

Then, I cut the torso of the shirt a little smaller and continued the seam all the way down to the waistline.

I cut the end of the sleeves off (so I could use the original hem on them) and used a basting stitch to gather them a little bit at the top before sewing them into place.

(The black lines are where I cut or used the seam ripper and the white lines are where I sewed. Obviously, it's not exact, but hopefully it makes sense.)

I wanted to still use the pockets in the dress somehow so I moved them higher and decided to sew a little lace detailing along the tops of them.

I thought it turned out cute! Definitely not professionally done, but it's still a fun, comfy dress and it didn't cost a thing since the shirt came from the same place the Jenny skirt did!

#Blessed. Haha!

(P.S. I normally wouldn't end it that way, but nothing else came to mind this week. Lol.)
