Perfect Rice Crispie Treats

I still remember the first time I made rice crispie treats. They turned out great! I thought I had it down.

But the second time, nope. I melted the marshmallows for too long on the stove and they turned out to be more like rice crispie bricks. And we were staying with my in-laws at the time...

At that time, I learned a great tip.

If you want to know what kind of family you married into, ruin a dessert and see how they react... Thankfully, my sweet in-laws that were still living at home smiled, said thanks for making them, and then gnawed on those "dessert rocks" like as if they had turned out perfectly!

Yep. I have the best bonus siblings! Haha!

Another tip I learned didn't come until a long time later when I finally tried to make rice crispie treats again. This time I found out how to making them perfectly and they've turned out great every time since!

The secret?

Cook them in a microwave.

First melt 1/4 cup butter in a large bowl in the microwave. Then, add 10 Oz mini marshmallows and store them in the bowl to combine them with the butter. Cook in the microwave for 30 seconds and then stir the marshmallows and butter with a large spoon.

Continue cooking and stirring the mixture in 30 second increments until am the marshmallows are melted and the mixture is smooth.

Immediately add 6 cups of rice crispie cereal and stir to combine.

Press the rice crispie mixture into a greased 13x9 pan and add sprinkles if desired.

*Another great tip is that you can put a little butter or cooking spray on your hand to help the rice crispie not sick so much when you're pressing them into the pan.

Allow them to cool a little before cutting them into squares.

A few things I love about making rice crispie treats (Other than getting to eat them. Lol.) are that they are super quick and easy to make, they're a great gluten free option if you ever need one, and they can fit into any holiday celebration just by adding sprinkles. I've made these for Christmas, Halloween, and Valentine's Day (obviously...), and even David has helped make them for a friend and used dinosaur sprinkles! There are honestly so many options.

And now that I'm making them in the microwave, they're delicious every time, too.
