Well, sort of.
I'll explain.
We decided a few months ago to go to San Diego with John's family for a sort of reunion. Basically, it wasn't going to be a reunion but everyone ended up wanting to go, so it turned into one. Haha!
Then, after booking a campsite, my brother called and said that they had decided to do hold a family reunion this year during that same week in the Exact. Same. Place.
We were pretty surprised.
We decided that it would be better to just take one week off and split the time rather than be gone for two weeks straight.
In the end it worked out great!
We started the trip off on our own in Cedar Breaks. It was pretty cold at night, but warmed up during the day. We did a few hikes and got takeout pizza.
For the first few days of San Diego, we were with John's family. The first two nights at the campsite were rough. With loud neighbors the first night and finding ants in our tent the second night, we almost asked the camp host to switch us to a different site.
We made it through though and had a lot of fun! We went to the beach to boogie board and surf on Saturday and played at the splash pad at the campsite. We also went to the San Diego Zoo on John's birthday which was a lot of fun! We had our masks on the whole time (minus the kids eating snacks and for a few pictures) and it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. The Zoo of course was amazing and not too packed because of the current guide lines.
Also, John's mom and dad bought him a mini cake to help celebrate his birthday because what's a birthday without cake?
Late Monday night, we drove over to where my family was staying (Thanks to Tay!). There was a lot to do at the house so we just hung out there the whole time. It had a batting cage, a small skateboarding half pipe, two trampolines, and a pool.
Also, Tuesday night we made pizza in the outdoor pizza oven which turned out great!
Honestly, I love camping, but after the first campsite being freezing cold and the second being swarmed by ants, I was so glad to be in a comfy bed again for a few nights.
On Wednesday, my in-laws came for dinner which was the sweet spot for me! We were spoiled having both sides of the family for dinner at the same time!
Just a side note here, I love that I have great in-laws! And I love that John feels the same way about my family! It's not very often that in-laws get along so well and I'm blessed that mine do!
Thursday night was a surprise going away party for Tami who just started her 2 year mission for our church this week. We also had a family minute to win it which is becoming a tradition. The first year it was a three way tie. The second year, Tay and Christina won. And the third year, we won!
It felt kinda weird winning since we planned the games, but I promise we didn't rig the system or practice the games before hand.
Friday, we went to the beach again and then switched back over to the campsite for one more night.
We didn't set the tent up until right before we went to bed and we also moved it to a different location. That and the fact that we packed up and left for home at 5:30 a.m. helped a lot and we had no ants that night!
It was a lot of fun to spend time with family last week and we were so lucky that we got to see both sides in the same trip!
