Valentine's Day 2021

This year we had a pretty chill Valentine's Day.

The Friday before, the kids and I made chocolate frosted brownies. Then, that night we just waited at home for my sister to get to our house since she was going to stay with us while she recovered from a small surgery.

On Saturday, John's dad and brothers came up and helped rip out our kitchen counters and cabinets! (And yes... we're currently remodeling our kitchen so we can add a dishwasher and I'm 7 months pregnant... fun! Haha!)

Sunday was actually Valentine's day and it was fun to see how excited the kids were! This is the first year that Brooke has really understood what Valentine's day is and David was pumped as well. He made a train valentine's box for the school party on Thursday this year, and right before heading off to school, I tossed my purse in the front seat completely forgetting that his box was on it! Part of the cotton ball smoke trail we made broke a little and we didn't have time to fix it. Luckily, his teacher saved the day with some hot glue when he got to school. Teachers are the best!

At home, David and Brooke both made Valentine's Day cards for John and I and I made some for them as well. I also wrote John a note/love letter. The best part about the cards was reading David's. I opened mine up and it said, "Your feet are pink and they do not stink." After I could pull myself together enough to answer, I said, "Wow, thanks David! I wonder what Daddy's says." John opened his up and read, "I love you." I looked at David and he explained that he couldn't think of anything else to write. Haha! It pretty much made my Valentine's Day that weekend!

For dinner, we had crepes with blackberries and bananas since the store was completely out of strawberries on Saturday!

The next weekend, Julia was well enough to watch the kids for us while John and I went to dinner at a local Mexican Food restaurant. Afterwards, we went to the library and wandered around a little. We had a small competition seeing who could find certain types of books first and John totally won. When we came home, I found a cute book John made for me about how we met. he made it sound like a fairytale and it was super cute! I read it to David and Brooke that night and they both really liked it too.

In the end, it was a very simple but great Valentine's day. I think the older I'm getting, the more happy I am with simple holiday celebrations with my family. Probably because the more my family grows, the easier it is to involve everyone if it is more simple. Honestly, this year as long as the kids aren't arguing too much, it's a good day. 😊
