This past Saturday was David's birthday and he was so excited to turn 8!
The week before his birthday, John and I took him out to a nickel arcade to celebrate. It was nice to have some time with just him and John and I and he had a lot of fun with all the games!
On Friday, my sister Julia came up and in the morning, she took him with her to pick out donuts and a present. She got him Battle Bots and they are pretty awesome! David loves them and already knew what they were since he and John have watched a few Battle Bots battles before.
After breakfast, David got to open his family presents. His favorite was a lego train. It was pretty much the only thing he asked for so he was super excited when he saw it!
The rest of the afternoon was mostly just trying to put his new legos together and playing with his presents.
In the evening, we headed up to John's parents' house to celebrate all the March birthdays in the family. We had pizza, played games, opened presents and ate yummy chocolate cupcakes that Aunt Bethany made!
Then, on Sunday, we had David's birthday dinner. In our family, the birthday kid gets to pick what they want to eat at home on their birthday. David's choice this year? Lasagna! It was either going to be that or orange chicken. Turning 8 has given him a slightly more mature palate than in the past years. Haha!
I also made a cake for him and he wanted funfetti with vanilla mousse filling and vanilla buttercream frosting. And just when I thought his taste buds were refining to more complex flavors... Lol.
This year, David wanted to help decorate the cake! And with how much time it took me to make the lasagna, I only got a crumb coat on the cake before calling it good. We went super simple with sprinkles, lego candies (leftover from another birthday) and a small icing tube to write with. Being 3 weeks away from having a baby, the cool Star Wars cake I had planned will have to wait until next year.
In the end, David had a good birthday this year! He is growing up to be a kind, fun, and energetic boy!
