Just one day after David's baptism, John and I had finished putting the kids in bed when around 8:30 pm I had a contraction. I'd been having them every few hours for a while so I didn't think much of it until I had another one 30 minutes later. I still thought nothing would come of it but decided to start tracking them anyway.
Within the next hour and a half, I had had a few that were 30 minutes apart and a few that were about 15 minutes apart.
And by 10 pm, they were coming about every 10 minutes and were pretty painful.
A little before 11 pm, I told John to call his mom and have her come up. I still wasn't actually sure if we'd end up going in, but it could be a real possibility after the hour it would take her to drive up! I didn't have any spotting and my contractions were still only 10 minutes apart (but the most painful ones I'd experienced outside of a hospital) so I wasn't sure if our baby would actually come that night or not and John thought I was probably overreacting...
Thankfully, he called his mom anyway and she came straight up! John gave me a quick blessing on the stairs since I needed to sit for a minute and was already there. And then we jumped in the little car to go... Turns out the battery was dead for some reason and we had to switch to the minivan while John hurried to take the car seats out. He thought it was funny but I wasn't in a laughing mood. Go figure. Haha!
When we finally got to the hospital, they checked me in just after midnight and found out I was already 100% effaced and was dilated to a 9! The nurse said she was shocked because it didn't seem like I was that far along with how I was acting. Lol.
She immediately called the doctor and anesthesiologist and I was able to get an epidural with a quick shot of the pain killer instead of the slow drip they usually do.
Pretty soon after, Zachary Marston was born on April 12 at 1:44 am! He weighed 8 lb 2 oz and was 21 1/2 inches long.
A few fun things about Zachary...
We didn't pick out his name... well, not exactly. Just a short time after finding out we were having a boy, the name Zachary popped into my head. It had ended up on our "possible names" list with our other boys but was always one of the first we took off.
This time, I couldn't get it out of my head. I even started going through a list of names at one point. I read the first possible name and a voice in my head said, "That's not his name. You know his name."
After that, I was pretty much sold on "Zachary".
A short time later, the name Marston popped into my mind as a middle name. It's my Grandpa Grimes' middle name and of all the people I would want my son to emulate, he would be one of the top names on the list!
So, with all that, John didn't really get much say in Zacky's name... Don't get me wrong. He likes the name. We just didn't pick it out the way we did with our other kids.
Another fun thing is that Zachary did the same thing Brooke did when she was born. He decided to come naturally on the day he was scheduled to be induced! Also, he came naturally on his due date which hasn't happened with any of our other kids yet! At this point, David came 6 days early, Brooke came 5 days late, I was induced to have Aaron on his due date and Zachary came naturally on his due date. It's safe to say that I will have no delivery date expectations for the next one. And all for a person that doesn't like surprises... Lol.
