Mother's Day 2021

This Mother's Day was a little different than most...

It started with a horrible night's sleep with baby Zack that left me sleeping in until about 8:30 am...

Followed by waffles with strawberries and whipped cream! Apparently, John sent one of the kids to tell me the food was ready, but they came up and said something random and completely unrelated and then went back downstairs. John thought I was still sleepy since I didn't come down and they ate without me... But, they did save me some, so it's all good! Haha!

Later that morning, David was washing his feet in our bathroom sink (why??) and accidentally knocked over and broke my table mirror.

In Sacrament meeting, I spaced out listening to the speaker for a minute and had the sudden realization that something was rubbing the backs of my white shoes... Yep. It was Brooke with a black pen.

After that, I hurried the kids off to primary and when I got back to the foyer to get the mother's day gift I forgot to pick up, they were gone. The ward clerk didn't know where they went and someone thinks they saw some young men with them... (Why do the boys think they have dibs on the leftover mother's day treats every year?? Seriously though.)

The headache that started at the start of church got worse and a little after getting home, it was migraine level. I took some medicine and spent the rest of the day in bed or downstairs in the dark.

I finally called my mom to say "Happy Mother's Day" around 9 pm and my headache was almost gone an hour later.

All in all... it was a pretty good Mother's Day!

And no, that's not sarcasm... Really.

I feel like I've hit a different level of "Mom" this year because even with all that, I still thought it was a great day!

So here's all the good stuff!...

While eating breakfast, I got to talk with my cute kiddos and watch as Aaron ate all the leftover strawberry slices out of the bowl. John said he had to fight him over it so he wouldn't eat them all before I came down. Haha!

Brooke spent the time before drawing on my shoes to give me a "makeover" by touching my eyelids with crayons and pretending to do my nails. When I saw my shoes ruined, all I thought was, "I guess I have a reason to get new shoes now..." Lol.

David was super excited because he and all the other primary kids got to sing to me and two other primary leaders to say "thank you" since we just got released from working in there. He also takes holidays a little more seriously now and tried to make sure the day was nice.

John was awesome watching the kids practically all day and making a super yummy dinner as well! (I'm all about the food on holidays. I think I got that from my Dad...)

John helped the kids make cards for me and they also made some cute ones in primary at church! My favorite parts were where David filled in the "My mom is good at" line with "laundry" and how almost all of Brooke's paper was about me giving her candy. Hahaha!

Yes, I definitely feel like I've grown a bit in my expectations for celebrations since I first got married. Not that they were ever high, but they're just different now. Except for when it comes to food. I still really enjoy good food! Lol.
