This week I finally finished sewing the 2nd octopus pillow for David's room. I want to say I started this project a few months ago, but at this point, I can't remember when I first started it. It could've been a year ago or more. Who knows... Either way, it's done! Which means one more project out of my sewing box and way too many left in it! Haha! Also, with me being pregnant again, I can say goodbye to any thought of working on current sewing projects involving clothes that have to fit me at my normal size... unless I only want to wear them when I look like I have a beach ball strapped to my stomach... No thanks. I'd rather keep going with the procrastination. ;)
Anyway, when John and I first moved into our house, John wanted to do an ocean theme for David's room. I got a few pillows and decorations that fit the theme and John's mom gave us a cool boat steering wheel clock that John had in his room as a kid. Other than that, we haven't done much. But I don't think David actually knows that his room was supposed to have a theme so it's fine...
The two octopus pillows in his room I made from some fabric and pillow inserts I got on sale for $1 each! The fabric may actually be meant for a really thin kitchen hand towel? Still not sure on that, but it feels fine for a pillow, so... we're going with it.
These were super easy to make! First, I laid the pillow insert down on the fabric and measured the fabric (inside out) around the pillow to know where I wanted to sew it.
With the fabric inside out from how the finished pillow would look, I pinned and sewed along three of the edges including the top (which didn't technically need to be sewn together) since I wanted it to have a more defined seam there as well.
Then, I flipped the fabric right side out and put the pillow insert inside. I folded the extra fabric in and pinned the last side together.
Since I was lazy and used black thread on the inside (since that's what was already in my machine), I had to switch to white for this last part so the thread wouldn't stand out as much. I sewed pretty close to the edge to close the fabric around the pillow and it was done!
It was pretty easy over all and I honestly should have just finished it sooner! David was super excited it was done too since he knew from the start that there were supposed to be two octopus pillows... My bad. But now that it's done, I can at least say that his bed is somewhat, a little more ocean themed than it was. So, mission accomplished, I guess. Haha!
