Choosing a Baby Name

This week I officially have one month left until my due date of January 5! I am so ready to meet this little guy! And also to be able to breathe, sleep slightly better, and to not have pain... pretty much everywhere (although it will still take a while before I can sleep through the night and I'm not tired most of the time). I feel like when you're a mom, you kind of just go through periods of zombie mode and slightly normal mode. "Mom brain" and "pregnancy brain" are real, people!

So, with our due date getting closer, we still need to decide on a name. We're down to two final names, but I'm definitely leaning more towards one of them. The only reason we haven't officially decided yet is because John has been so busy with school and work that sometimes he just wants to come home and not think. That, and for some reason it usually comes into my mind again when we're going to bed and he's so close to falling asleep that it's pretty much pointless to try to talk to him... unless I want to repeat myself a ton and eventually give up. Lame light sleeper genes!

With this being our second son, a lot of the names we liked the first time are still on our list. To narrow it down, we use my parents' strategy.

First, we each make a list of our top 6 names. Then, we trade lists.

Once we have each other's lists, we veto our least favorite 3 on it and cross them out.

When we get our own list of names back, we choose our favorite one and decide from those last two. So far, we've been on the same page enough about names that it hasn't been hard to choose from the last two names. (I'm pretty sure we ended up having the same name at the end for David and Brooke! Lol!)

Once we've decided on a first name, we get to choose the middle name. We haven't actually been as organized with this part as we are with the first name. In John's family, they use a family name for the middle name, so that's what we've decided to do in our family (Mostly because with how hard it usually is for me to make decisions, narrowing it down to family names helps a bit. Haha!). We pretty much just suggest names and see how they sound with the first and last name together.

With John starting his winter break from school this week, hopefully we'll be able to decide on a name soon! If not, we may have to revert to my Dad's name suggestion of Bucky Brainard... Just kidding! Sorry dad, but not in a million years... And sorry to anyone actually named that, it's just not our style. Haha!
